Turkey Burgers with Caramelized Onions

Caramelized Onions
2 Tablespoons garlic flavored olive oil
1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
3 Large sweet onions, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch rings
2 Tablespoons sugar
2 Tablespoons red wine vinegar
To taste salt and freshly ground black pepper
 
  1. In a large, heavy skillet, heat oil and butter over medium-low heat. Stir in onions and coat with oil mixture.
  2. Cover and slowly cook until onions are soft, about 10-13 minutes. Add sugar and cook about 5 minutes, stirring frequently.
  3. Stir in vinegar, salt and pepper. Cook until onions are soft and golden brown.
  4. Remove from pan and hold for service.
 
Turkey Burgers
2 Pounds GROUND TURKEY
2 Large eggs, beaten
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
As needed salt and freshly ground black pepper
 
  1. Measure 1/2 cup caramelized onions and dice onions into small pieces.
  2. Mix onions, ground turkey, beaten eggs, Worcestershire sauce, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix gently to blend.
  3. Form into six burgers.
  4. Per order: Grill turkey burgers over medium direct heat until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F.
 
Service
6 Each hamburger buns, buttered and grilled
As needed leafy green salad
 
  1. Place cooked turkey burgers on buns and top with remaining caramelized onions. Serve with a leafy green salad.
