National family-style chain serving turkey year-round and all daylong
Tucson, Ariz., February 8, 2007 -
The National Turkey Federation (NTF) today presented Bob Evans Restaurant chain with its Fifth Annual “Turkey On the Menu” (T.O.M.) Award at the federation’s Annual Convention. The award honors this family-style chain for demonstrating market success and menu innovation with turkey products. Bob Evans Restaurants impressed judges by capitalizing on turkey’s versatility, taste and consumer appeal at its nearly 600 locations across the country.
Bob Evans was selected among nominees for its on-trend, delicious turkey creations that span all day-parts of the menu: the Turkey and Spinach Omelet offered at breakfast, a Knife and Fork Turkey Sandwich at lunch, and a Slow Roasted Turkey Melt and Slow Roasted Turkey Breast included in the dinner entrees.
“Bob Evans range of turkey items underscores the year-round popularity of this poultry for all meals of the day, making the restaurant an obvious recipient of the T.O.M Award,” said Sherrie Rosenblatt, NTF's vice president of marketing and communication.
“Bob Evans’ success shows how consumers respond when you present them with a truly superior product, they respond by buying more often and returning again and again,” praised Chuck Staugler, vice president, sales and marketing for Cooper Farms, the turkey processor that nominated the Bob Evans chain for the T.O.M. Award. Cooper Farms recognized Bob Evans’ varied uses of turkey to capture customers looking for satisfying and healthier options.
Sam Cox, purchasing and commodities director, accepted the award on behalf of Bob Evans Restaurants at the NTF’s Annual Convention. “We are proud to have received this award in recognition of our popular turkey dishes,” said Cox. “Turkey not only brings variety to our menu, but it perfectly suits the comfortable family-style atmosphere by appealing to such a wide range of ages and ethnicities.”
Bob Evans Restaurants have been serving its trademark traditional heartland cuisine since its start on a farm in southeastern Ohio over 50 years ago, and continue to draw customers with comforting high-value meals and friendly service.
Winning the family-style category of the T.O.M Award, Bob Evans joined Wendy’s International, winner of the quick-service chain award category, in receiving recognition at the NTF’s 2007 Annual Convention. Past recipients of the award include Subway, Schlotzsky’s, the Machine Shed and Mimi’s Café.
National Turkey Federation member companies nominate restaurant chains that fit the criteria of the award. Entry applications address questions regarding a description of the menu applications, the items' consumer appeal, how the chain promotes the menu item through marketing and turkey's food cost percentage. A panel of foodservice professionals rates the entries on consumer appeal, versatility, taste, value and how the turkey application benefits the chain operation. The National Turkey Federation (NTF) is the national advocate for all segments of the turkey industry, providing services and conducting activities that increase demand for its members' products by protecting and enhancing their ability to profitably provide wholesome, high-quality, nutritious products.
