This month, the National Turkey Federation (NTF) will showcase Ground Turkey in the featured product series on EatTurkey.com.

Ground turkey is usually a blend of white and dark meat, but is also available in as ground turkey breast, which is 99 percent fat free. Whether used in a chili or formed into a burger, the Web site shows a variety of preparation ideas.

“Ground turkey’s versatility allows it to be prepared for virtually any menu application, breakfast, lunch, appetizers, soups or entrées,” comments NTF’s Senior Director of Marketing and Communications Sherrie Rosenblatt. “It is available in several flavored varieties, but the mild meat can also be infused with different seasonings and flavoring ingredients.”

An online survey conducted on EatTurkey.com found that ground turkey was the product that most respondents (67%) wanted more information about. Therefore, this section of the Web site gives foodservice operators information they seek in order to add ground turkey items to their menus, such as a product description, cooking information and tested recipes.

“What I like about ground turkey is obviously its healthy qualities, but beyond that, the texture and flavor is fantastic. It stands up to long cooking without becoming dry, and though it has its own flavor, it works wonderfully with additional flavors in a dish,” comments Executive Chef Dean Dupuis from South City Kitchen in Atlanta, GA. “Above and beyond the uses in our restaurant, I enjoy eating ground turkey when I’m not at work because it is so versatile and is also usually inexpensive!”
